Biography

Hsiao-Feng Tsai is an Research Fellow specializing in Chinese Mandarin at the Research Center for Curriculum and Instruction, NAER. She has been in the academy since 2014. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees from National Taiwan Normal University. Subsequently, she completed her PhD on reading and literacy in early and middle childhood at Ohio State University in 2012. From 2012 to 2014, she served as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Center for Educational Research and Evaluation, National Taiwan Normal University. Her research interests include classroom discourse analysis, reading education, and Chinese pedagogy. Most of her work has focused on developing reading instructions and differentiated instructions; social interaction in the classroom; and analysis of the critical problems in Chinese pedagogy, especially related to the 12-Year Basic Education Curriculum. She was awarded a certificate in teaching Mandarin Chinese as a first language in Taiwan's middle schools and a certificate in teaching Chinese as a second language overseas.
